AMOAKO BOAFO
MON *BERLIN EDITION 2019
Boafo premiered four works from his "Black Diaspora" series at the Berlin Edition of the Museum of Now. The four portraits were among the audience’s favorites and a focal point of our Berlin exhibition.
A week prior the opening Boafo received the Strabag Artaward, Art Basel described him in an article as “... (one of) seven artists on the rise... updating the medium for the 21st century”. On the opening day of MON Berlin Edition Le Monde reported: “With his works Boafo is celebrating the delayed arrival of People of Color in art history”.
BLACK DIASPORA
In the Black Diaspora series represented with four premiered works at the Berlin Edition of the Museum of Now, Boafo articulated the social environment of People of Color in Europe, Africa and the United States of America. The works of Amoako Boafo combine a rigorous expressiveness with a great empathy for the individual. The social context of the representations gives his paintings a great political relevance and sheds light on the global social ills and disadvantages of People of Color.
